For Individuals, Schools, Businesses; Anyone:

EMOTIONS- ACTIONS-REACTIONS

EMOTIONS

Like a roll of the dice, older adults, adults, adolescents, preteen and children go through different emotions at all different times in their lives.

Sometimes, it is due to a situation (grief, transition, financial issues, school, work, trauma) and there are other times, when we can't quite determine the cause.

In Society, we need to begin to find ways (in different parts within our communities to recognize when people need support.

DO WE TAKE ACTION???? Are We Afraid???

ACTION

TWO VERY IMPORTANT WARNINGS ABOUT TAKING ACTION-

1. Do not go up to each person you think is aggravating or doesn't share your view and ask if something is "wrong with them" or hand them a card for a therapist.

2. Do not go up to each person you REALLY believe may have a serious emotional need and JUMP IN!

REACTIONSFirst, this is meant for us to pay attention to others.

-Look for patterns of behavior at work or school (sadness, anger, grandiosity, violence, giving away items, odd sudden increase in happiness without reason, bruises, cuts, attendance issues without medical illness, fear or paranoia, antisocial behavior and higher levels of frustration).

TO HELP: THIS DEPENDS ON THE ISSUE AND LOCATION / YOUR RELATIONSHIP/SAFETY  RISK/ WHETHER CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED.

School

Tell a school administrator, psychologist, social worker (if the issue is about a child or parent). If you are scared- share with them your fears and review the steps they must take- KNOW THAT ANY REPORTS MADE TO Children's Services can be anonymous, Also, if you are worried and there is no concrete concern you may be alterting the school to something to watch for or speak with the parent about.; that is okay.

If there is No Imminent Danger and you are comfortable, speak with the parent.

A non-blaming manner approach (usually works best) and speaking in a caring way to bring the concern to their attention. Always remember your goal. If the concern is about one parent you can go to the other. Typically (unless you have a relationship- utilizing the school is best.

REMEMBER YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PREVENTING!

Work Environment

In a work environment, the same applies. If you have a relationship -speaking to the person (if you feel there is no imminent risk to that person or others is a good option).

Since you are dealing with the adult population going to someone's HR department is a different move here. Based on their answers to your concern; give them resources, contact a family member or another co-worker or friend prior.

If you feel they are a danger to themselves or others (any plan to hurt themselves or others, regular cuts bruises unexplained mean they could be in danger, if they are bringing items into work that are prohibited), speak to a professional yourself, a co-worker or your HR department or a business or security leader at the company or building.

Do not take on the responsibility for this but your support may have  helped people!

Always Give the Person A Chance To Explain Unless You See Them :with A Weapon, in the Act of hurting themselves or someone else,  hear a verbal or see a note with a plan or feel there is a  possibility for harm to anyone;  YOU SHOULD THEN ACT - Utilize An Official At School, Work, the Police or 911.

REMEMBER YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PREVENTING!

It is okay to get support individually, or help a friend !
